Laurel for National Museum of Natural History - NMNH (India)

The National Museum of Natural History - NMNH (India) is selected as one among the top twelve leading Natural History Museums in the world by ICOM, while planning to have an international exhibition on Climate Change [CCE 2012 - Climate Change Exhibition]. The aim of CCE2012 is to induce coordinated exhibitions on Climate Change in Natural History Museums all over the world in 2012, the year of Earth Summit 3, as well as a worldwide survey campaign on perception of climate change, followed by a publication in 2013. To manage and direct this process, a Steering Group is also planned.

The Director of NMNH, Dr B. Venugopal, who is an Executive Board member of ICOM-NATHIST (2007-2010), is invited to be a member of the Steering Group to oversee the Exhibition.

The kick-off workshop in this regard will be arranged by ICOM-NATHIST in Natural History Museum Vienna (Austria) during 12-14 June 2010.

INC-ICOM and Indian Museum, Kolkata jointly celebrated International Museum Day at the Indian Museum: Programme from 11.00 a.m. followed by lunch.
Panel discussion on
"Museums for Social Harmony"
(this year's theme of ICOM) and an exhibition to be inaugurated at the Ashutosh Centenary Hall, 27 J.L. Neheru Rd (Chowringhee), Kolkata -700016.

Regional Museum of Natural History (North-East) at Gangtok gets a solid base:
A site measuring 2.4280 hectares was transferred on 27th April 2010, from the Govt. of Sikkim (Dept. of Forests) to Govt. of India (MoEF/ NMNH) for establishing Regional Museum of Natural History (North-East) at Gangtok, at a ceremony held in the office of PCCF and Secretary, Dept.of Forests, Govt. of Sikkim
.

This will be the fifth RMNH under NMNH: Earlier ones are at Mysore (South), Bhopal (Central), Bhubaneswar (East) and Sawai Madhopur (West: Being completed).

New Executive Committee (2006-2009)

Dr. Arun Kumar Chatterjee is elected as the new Chairman of INC-ICOM


Dr. Chatterjee, a well-known field anthropologist has worked extensively among the tribal communities of the east coast and the northeast of India collecting examples of their material culture for the museums. He was for long the Keeper of the department of Anthropology in the Indian Museum, Kolkata and presently the Hony. Director of the Rarh Samskritiki Sangrahalaya, Kharagpur, West Bengal. He is also a faculty of the Museology Department of Calcutta University. He has served the Indian National Committee of the ICOM in various capacities in the past and represented in many of the Annual General Assemblies of ICOM.

Dr. A.K. Chatterjee is also the Vice - Chairman of the Museum Association of India, and the Executive Member of the Art History Congress.

Inauguration of the official web site of INC-ICOM

The official web site of INC-ICOM (www.inc-icom.org) to be inaugurated at the annual general conference, on 18th May, 2002 by Shri N. Gopalaswami, IAS, Secretary, Culture, Govt. of India, in presence of Ms. Chandana Khan, IAS, Secretary, Tourism, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh as the Guest-of-honour along with other dignatories. Shri N. Gopalaswami, will also inaugurate the celebration of International Museum Day, 2002 and a threeday seminar & workshop on 'Museums and Globalisation', at Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad.
