International Museum Day on 18 MAY 2010

INC-ICOM and Indian Museum, Kolkata jointly celebrate International Museum Day at the Indian Museum: Programme from 11.00 a.m. followed by lunch.
Panel discussion on "Museums for Social Harmony"
(this year's theme of ICOM) and an exhibition to be inaugurated at the Ashutosh Centenary Hall, 27 J.L. Neheru Rd (Chowringhee), Kolkata -700016.

on 23rd & 24th August 2008
at the Orissa State Museum, Kalpana Chauk, Bhubaneswar.

Over eighty people participated from all over India.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF MUSEUM CONSERVATORS

ICOM Committee for Conservation (ICOM-CC), with over 1400 members worldwide organised its 15th Triennial Meeting in New Delhi from 22-26 September 2008. This is for the first time that in any Asian country the ICOM-CC meeting was held .

The theme of the conference was Diversity in heritage conservation: Tradition, innovation and participation. National Research Laboratory for Conservation (NRLC) of Lucknow was the official host and organiser of the conference. An apex committee was formed under the Chairmanship of the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, which included the Secretary, Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Director Generals of National Museum, Archaeological Survey of India and National Archive of India; Joint Secretary (Museums), Department of Culture, Govt. of India; Member-Secretary, Indira Gandhi Centre for Arts; Nominee of INTACH and Chairman, Indian National Committee of ICOM.

Director, NRLC -- Dr. M.V. Nair had been nominated as the Member Secretary of the Committee.

Approximate participation cost for each participant was over Rs.30,000/-

ICOM India and the Indian Museum, Kolkata organised a day long seminar on "Role of Doccumentation for the Protection of Museum Objects" at the Indian Museum, Kolkata on 30 April 2008 from 10.30 a.m. The Annual General Meeting of the INC-ICOM was also held after the Seminar at the same venue.

Dr. Saroj Ghose, former global President of ICOM was the Guest-in-Chief. Dr. S.S. Biswas - former DG, National Museum & Chairman ICOMOS - India delivered the keynote speech.

A ten-day meet of the ICOM members & museum professionals from 145 countries was organised from 14 AUG 2007 - 24 AUG 2007 at the Austrian Capital - Vienna, to discuss the vital issues on Museums and Universal Heritage - how museum should communicate and promote the universal ownership of cultural heritage through an understanding of cultural diversity.

Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, provided travel expenses to attend the meet to INC-ICOM Chairman Dr. Arun K Chatterjee, INC-ICOM Secretary Dr. C. B. Patel and Prof. C.R. Panda (Director-in-Charge of the Indian Museum, Kolkata and Secretary & Curator of Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata).

ICOM India and the National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC) organised a two days National Seminar on MANAGING A FINITE SOURCE - BALANCING CONSERVATION AND USE OF COLLECTION at NRLC, Lucknow on 14 & 15 July 2007.

ICOM India and ICOMOS India in collaboration with the State Museum, Govt. of Orissa organised a two day National Seminar on 'Protection & Preservation of Universal Heritage' at the Orissa State Museum, Bhubaneswar, on 24-25 March 2007.

Shri Suryanarayana Patra Hon'ble Minister, IT, Energy & Culture, Orissa inaugurated the Seminar on 24th March 2007. Padmavusan Dr. Saroj Ghose - ex-global president of ICOM, Dr. S.S. Biswas - Chairman of ICOMS India and Shri. Mohanty -Principal Secretary, Culture, Govt. of Orissa graced the occassion.

Workshop on
'Protection of Cultural Property: Copyright Act & Antiquarian Laws'
was held on 25 &26 MAR 2006 at Santiniketan, West Bengal.

The workshop was jointly organised by INC-ICOM with Rabindra Bhavana, Nandan Museum and Museum of Department of Archaeology and Ancient Indian History, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan.

On 25 MAR 2006 - the workshop was held from 3.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
and on 26 MAR 2006 it was held from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Udayan, Santiniketan.

Inauguration of the official web site of INC-ICOM

The official web site of INC-ICOM (www.inc-icom.org) was inaugurated at the Annual General Conference, on 18th May, 2002 by Shri N. Gopalaswami, IAS, Secretary, Culture, Govt. of India. It was inaugurated in presence of Ms. Chandana Khan, IAS, Secretary, Tourism, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh as the Guest-of-honour along with other dignatories. Shri N. Gopalaswami, also inaugurated the celebration of International Museum Day, 2002 and a threeday seminar & workshop on 'Museums and Globalisation', at Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad. The web site was designed by Mr. Partha S. Mukherjee (designer of the official websites of Victoria Memorial, Kolkata; Indian Museum and and National Library of India,) and the site was donated to INC-ICOM by M/S Cyber Animatrix Pvt. Ltd.
